I like the ideas in these two models, and I'd love to find a way to merge these ideas into something that we could put in the Awards commons. If you're interested in working on this, let me know.

I agree, this is a great base. I was working on something similar but more generic with Top 10 Lists base. There's definitely some duplication between the two - certainly something to work on.

I've put a model with some data on sandbox. Take a look, and let me know what you think.

Good effort jeff.
My comment would be to rename 'ranked list maker' as 'ranked list compiler' or 'ranked list publisher' (or place these in the 'also known as' property).
Also, it would be good to somehow link to the publications where the list was published - could we include the 'published work' type with the 'ranked list' type?

"Ranked list compiler" has a nice ring to it. Publication is an interesting problem. The Fortune 500 has been published annually for more than 50 years, so each separate publication would have to be entered somehow, but all from the single Fortune 500 topic. (An aside: I actually did try a model where each year's list was a separate topic, which would off course eliminate that problem, but it made it really, really annoying to use, and didn't work at all for one-off lists.) And AFI's "100" lists are generally broadcast as a TV special.

I've punted on the published-in question for now, and published the schema to the Awards commons: https://www.freebase.com/view/award/ranked_list.

Excellent, thanks jeff.
I have now migrated everything in my Top Ten list base to the Ranked List/Awards Commons, and have now deleted the Top Ten base.
A further comment I have would be to rename the 'year' property on 'Ranked List Item' CVT to 'year listed' to make its purpose clearer. (hopefully this will help prevent the release date of a movie, or publication date of a book being entered by mistake)
